New Energy Vehicles Lead the Charge: Used EV Exports Skyrocket by 196%
The most striking trend in China’s used car export market for the first half of 2026 is the explosive growth of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). Used NEV exports surged by a staggering 196% year-on-year, now comprising 31% of the total used car export volume. This remarkable growth is driven by two main factors: superior product value and a massive domestic supply. A three-year-old Chinese EV, equipped with advanced smart cabins and long-range batteries, offers exceptional value for money in overseas markets compared to traditional used cars. Furthermore, with China’s NEV ownership nearing 50 million units and a short replacement cycle of 2-3 years among domestic consumers, a vast and steady stream of quality used EVs is entering the market. Key models like compact EVs are dominating markets in Central Asia and Southeast Asia, while hybrid models are seeing strong demand in the Middle East.
